When I envision The Peak Ballet Theatre (PBT) and The Peak Ballet Theatre School, I see an organization dedicated to the art of dance and embracing harmony, collaboration, grace, and the beauty of children. I see happy young dancers expressing these same qualities with the confidence that comes from knowing that they can demonstrate what they are learning in their daily lives. I see a committed faculty inspiring families in the Colorado Springs community and providing positive life experiences that will enrich their lives and encourage a love of all arts. I see The Peak Ballet School dancers as young professionals full of raw talent who have accomplished so much at such a young age.
I am proud to be a part of this vision and so pleased with the progress of The Peak Ballet Theatre School. That such a young organization already has been able to make a strong, positive impact on our community is remarkable. Enrollment continues to grow, as does our audience for performance. The Peak Ballet Theatre has a stunning new facility equipped with sprung flooring and ample space to commit to the growth of the school. Each room is filled with talented faculty, guest artists, and eager students, all sharing the same vision. This allows us to nurture an environment conducive to the discovery and creation of each child’s inner artist.
Our students in The Peak Ballet Theater’s Pre-Professional Program (PBT II) have danced three full-length ballet classics, each displaying suitable, creative choreography and giving the students the opportunity to work on character roles appropriate for their age and abilities. These youth performances were well received. I thank the Colorado Springs community for welcoming our young artists with open arms and words of encouragement. PBT has collaborated with outstanding nonprofit arts organizations within this community and the Denver metro area. PBT II performed contemporary pieces sharing the stage with The Colorado Springs Philharmonic in their Family Series performances held at the Pikes Peak Center. PBT faculty performed as the guest professional company at The Denver Ballet Guild’s Young Dancers Scholarship competition Gala performance 2005. The Peak Ballet School is preparing for upcoming collaborative performances with The Colorado Springs Conservatory and other youth performing arts organizations in our community.
Dancers never stop learning. As a training ritual, a professional dancer begins each day with a ballet “class.” This enables a dancer to improve his or her artistry and technique and to add all of the intricate details that make for a great artist and athlete. Some students take professional paths in their lives that do not include dance, but they still benefit greatly from ballet training. Grace, discipline, motivation, confidence, and an appreciation for the arts will enhance and inspire students the rest of their lives regardless of the path they choose.
I look forward to working with your children and hope to inspire their inner artist. Welcome to The Peak Ballet Theatre School’s spring semester and our future together.
Sincerely,
Megan Yacko
